That was an incredible relief, and it gave me hope and strength during that difficult time. And when I returned to playing the violin, I was more serious about it than before, because I had realized how important music is to me. “I guess [my] main obstacle is believing in my own journey. Not thinking that I have to be able to do what someone else can at a particular time, or be further along in my development than I am. It is sometimes so hard to embrace exactly where I am, and what I hear, and remember that music is not about how much you can play, how much language you know, or how many hours you've practiced . . . it’s about expressing something of value to listeners. And, the practicing is just to make my expression freer and easier. When I forget this and feel down because I cannot play or understand what someone else can, I think about the progress I’ve made, and remind myself that with time, anything I want will be in my playing if I work at it. That usually helps me overcome it.”
