Midsummer Musical Retreat

Midsummer Musical Retreat is a festival workshop for adult amateur musicians. This workshop provides a rich musical experience for adult musicians, a music camp for adults. Since 1983 singers and instrumentalists, amateurs and semi-professionals have found Midsummer Musical Retreat to be an invigorating, instructive, and rewarding part of their musical lives. The strength of Midsummer Musical Retreat program has been the exciting intersection of a committed, supportive, professional faculty, thrilling repertoire, enthusiastic campers and a non-competitive but challenging curriculum that includes large ensembles, chamber groups, and electives. Mountain Collegium for Early Music

Music at Port Milford

Intimate chamber music program in historic lake district. Designed to further the love of music through a program of quartet and string orchestra playing, choral singing, private lessons, and practive with the fun of regular camp activities. Quartet playing is at the heart of the camp experience. Each student is assigned before camp to a group, music parts are sent for advance study, and at camp each group is coached daily. Student quartets are chosen for compatibility in age, experience, performance level, and instrumentation. Major literature is prepared in intensive schedules. Lobster bake on Great Pond, evening activities, etc. Each quartet does final performance. Campus offers excellent facilities, good food, and a beautiful environment.

The five-week Young Artist Seminar, open for students ages 15–22, includes a daily schedule of practice, lessons, theory, chamber ensembles, and orchestra. Twice-weekly playing classes provide public performing experience, and weekly faculty concerts model musical development and performance. The Junior Student Seminar, for students ages 10–14, is a shorter, less-intense version that carefully maintains a balance of musical study, performance, and extracurricular activities. Scholarships available for YAS only. Students may attend one or both JSSs.
