Alaria Chamber Ensemble: Summer Chamber Music at Mannes

Two 2½-hour meetings per week. Suitable for singers and players of all ages, levels, and instruments. Emphasis is on ensemble technique and good sound. Acceptance depends on compatability with others. Everyone is assigned to two ensembles. Most groups meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The environment is musically serious, yet noncompetitive. Music ranges from Baroque to contemporary. Many of the participants are repeaters. Performance seminars also available.

Our 21st year. Many children in England attend centers close to their homes. Children from the U.S. may stay with own families in nearby bed-and-breakfast, hotel, dormitory on campus, or with British families. Courses for nonplayers ages 5–9: singing, composing, instrumental instruction; for players ages 7–18: band, orchestra, chamber music, choral, voice instruction.

Faculty: Members of the best English orchestras and hold teaching positions at well-known schools.
